Pinky Swear

Description

Snapping turtles spend 90% of their time in the water so when it's time to nest, move, or lay eggs they are out of their environment. A warm road probably seems pretty nice, but it's no place to rest. I had stopped to help this snapper across the road when this gentleman pulled up behind me to expedite the process. When he picked it up, the turtle hissed and his claw locked onto the pinky of the man and he screeched in return. Neither were hurt and we had a good laugh, but the picture shows the pure terror from everyone involved. This is one of my favorite pictures and a reason to carry a camera. These are the real moments in a day that can impact wildlife. Not everything is polar bears and penguins. Conservation has to come from everyone and everywhere to work. One step at a time just like this picture shows.
